He had been back up and nothing more. A few other police officers had been posted around the area in disguise, waiting for the chance to jump this drug dealer quietly. Parker didn’t know the details, but someone wanted this kid for information and nothing more. This was a scare tactic. He’d been told to follow as a second line of defense, but they hadn’t needed him anymore. Or at all really. Parker was relieved of his duties and told to head back. He obeyed, adjusting his cap and about to get back in his car.
The sound his ears before he cold step into his vehicle. Parker’s head snapped to the source, eyeing briefly for a moment the shadows and the yellow eyes that stared back at him. He froze, listening carefully but nothing else occurred. Just a cat, messing with him. He was surprised really, but he imagined news of a cop that fed strays traveled fast enough. “Hey cutie, you lost?” he said voice low as he pulled out his flashlight. He shined the beam on the sidewalk and then carefully on the animal. It’s eyes only narrowed at the sudden brightness, but it didn’t flee just yet. Parker frowned as he noted there was no collar on the cat. He supposed a stop by the shelter would be fine. Tomorrow anyway. There was no way they were open at this hour. Night shift wasn’t exactly the most convenient of scheduling.
He nodded to himself. Before work he’d make a stop. He could detour to a place before work. Right. “C’mere cat. I’ll grab you a can of tuna on the way home.” He offered outstretching a hand and crouching down by his car. He clicked his tongue and snapped his fingers a few times, coaxing the stray grey tabby out of the darkness. Slow going, but good progress without an actual treat. He yelped as he was addressed, shooting up to his feet. His sudden upward lurch spooked the cat away. It took off running. Parker cast it a sad glance before looking back at the ginger. They seemed friendly. But they had also spooked him. “Hhh…Good evening.” He said forcing out the words carefully before he tipped his hat to the stranger. He felt a flash of heat rise through his chest at the word ‘lovely’ but pressed on, carefully putting away his flashlight on his belt. “I could ask you the same thing, actually.” He stated evenly after swallowing his nerves. Still, Parker offered a polite smile at the citizen of his city. “Lovely and all that included. I-Is there anything I can help you with, Sir?”
“Ah! Yeah I suppose so.” The demon relented with a small laugh. His polite smile seemed to deflate a little at the story. An ex friend huh? What a shame. He didn’t want to even think about how he’d feel if he lost one of his own friends. Not that he had many in Mythril, but it was more than when he was alive. He supposed anyway. He couldn’t remember friends from when he was alive. Just…a vague recollection of is closest family and the truck that had splatted him. “Sounds lonely. I’m sorry for your loss.” He said wit ha nod.
At the mention of a gun, he frowned worriedly as his mind began checking through backlog after backlog of protocol. He had a key, so it wasn’t like he was breaking in right? He could just stand in the hallway. Presence was enough. “N-No. Of course not. You have legal entry, so I don’t…see an issue.” The young man relented. He looked at the redhead and then made a few casual glances at their surroundings once more. He was little more resilient than some of his colleagues, but he didn’t want to get ganged up. Though, the man seemed alright. Not outwardly hostile. He didn’t see any bulges on his person that seemed suspicious. “Well, I can escort you if you’d like until you retrieve your belongings and escort you back home if you’d like?” Parker offered, still worried about a civilian getting shot. He seemed nice enough. Whatever fall out he’d had with his friend was inconsequential. He should be allowed to get his things back.
“What’s your name, sir. I’m Officer Kingsley.” he introduced, holding out his hand to shake.
